Overview
Commercial Landscaping: what's involved and who it's for
What it is
Commercial landscaping concerns the outdoor areas around business premises. We review the site and your specification to agree the landscaping and associated building work required.
Who it's for
Businesses, commercial property owners and landlords across Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and South Wales planning improvements to their outdoor spaces.
When you need it
When completing new premises, refurbishing an existing site or changing how its external areas are used.
Why a professional matters
Landscaping needs to work with entrances, existing levels, drainage and the way people move around the site. Considering these together helps avoid an attractive finish that is impractical to use.
Get it right first time
What goes wrong when it's done badly
Outdoor work planned separately from the building can leave conflicting levels, difficult access or drainage issues. An agreed site-wide specification helps identify these before work begins.
Risks and rising costs
- Poor connections between outdoor areas and entrances.
- Surface water collecting in unsuitable places.
- Materials or finishes unsuited to their intended use.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Choosing finishes before reviewing site conditions.
- Ignoring access during the works.
- Assuming every landscaping task is included without a written scope.

In detail
Commercial Landscaping explained
Commercial landscaping varies by site. The survey establishes the scope; we do not assume specialist planting, maintenance or every external trade is included.
External areas around business premises
The layout should reflect how staff, visitors and deliveries use the site. Discuss entrances, outdoor spaces and their connection to the building at the briefing stage.
Levels and drainage
Existing ground levels and surface-water routes influence the work. Any changes need to be considered with the building, boundaries and wider drainage arrangements.
Finishes and materials
Agree the materials and finishes in the specification, taking account of their intended use, existing surroundings and care requirements.
Landscaping within a commercial build
Where outdoor work is part of a larger building project, the programme should allow for construction access before final external finishes are installed.
A clear scope for your site
Send your drawings or describe the work you need. We will confirm what BUILT can undertake and identify any specialist input before agreeing a price.
Working with BUILT
What to expect from start to finish
A survey before any price
Every project starts with a visit. On properties you already own, the site survey is free. If you're still buying, our pre-purchase estimate costs £250 + VAT and is refunded in full on your first invoice if you book the work with us. Either way, you get a clear view of what's involved before committing.
Paying only for progress
We don't ask for an upfront deposit. Instead, work is invoiced fortnightly based on an agreed percentage of completed work per item. You can see exactly what you're paying for on every invoice, and your money stays with you until the work is done.
One team, one point of contact
BUILT has 25 tradespeople on the tools and 4 office staff, working from our own units and offices at Linton Barns, Ross-on-Wye. Keeping trades in-house means fewer handovers, fewer gaps in the programme, and one company accountable for the result.
Protection once we've finished
New build houses carry a 10-year warranty; extensions, conversions and all other work carry a 1-year warranty. We're CHAS accredited and hold £10M combined public and employers' liability insurance throughout the build.
